The Fencers Club Newsletter - June 2016
Hello Fencing Families! So many of you have been asking about club news, we’ve decided the time has come to launch a monthly newsletter. We promise to keep things short and, no pun intended (OK, maybe it is), to the point! So let’s kick things off! What’s New? TFC is moving in September! As some of you may have heard, in September we are moving to a space at the corner of Route 7 and Carlin Springs Road. It is just about three miles East down Route 7 from our current location. It is in the same complex as Ballet Nova, Golds Gym and REI. Tons of parking. It is a great space and will allow us to set up permanent strips, hold tournaments and really build the club. We are all very excited – this will be a great move! TFC supports our veterans You may have seen our recent email about our participation in the Boots Campaign. TFC is very excited to be working with this great charity! In case you missed it, the Boots Campaign raises money for veterans and their families. We will help by raising awareness with two fundraisers between now and October. The first will be our Pushups for Pennies fundraiser! Heard of Jump-rope for Hearts or Race for the Cure? Same idea here, except our fencers will be doing pushups in class for pennies (or more if their sponsors choose). Since our fencers already do lots of pushups in class, this will be super fun and easy! Sponsorship sheets will be coming home soon. Please help your fencer think of people who might like to sponsor their efforts: grandparents, friends and neighbors (please accompany your fencer if they visit unknown neighbors). The fundraiser will run through October 15, 2016. We will keep track of the pushups in class. Yes, it’s just that easy! Our second fundraiser will be a community event in October in our new space. It will be a pushup challenge with other fencing clubs and any other athletic group or class that wants to join in. If your yoga, Pilates, Barre, Jazzercise, gym – anyone at all – wants to join the day, let Coach Greg know and we will make it happen. Thank you for joining TFC in support of this great charity! Tournament Results! Congrats to foilists Mark and Raynie, tying for third place in the Cadet event this weekend at the Martenelli Challenge at the Fencing Sports Academy. Way to go, guys!
