LOCAL Tournament Registration

How to Register to Go to a Tournament

What is AskFred.net?
AskFred.net is a USFA-supported website that provides the information on and opportunity to register for local tournaments.

How do I use it?  Why would I use it?
If you or your child is ready to compete, it is always preferable to start in a local tournament.  AskFred.net is designed exactly for that purpose.  The website provides solid and correct information on all local tournaments and you may create your own filters.
The filters include age groups and experience groups (Div I, Div II, Div III), distance from home zip code, weapon (foil, saber, epee).
When first using AskFred.net, create an account for the fencer.  This will allow you to tailor your future searches and will allow you to preregister for tournaments.  It is strongly suggested to preregister for all the tournaments you want to participate in - you will be able to pull them up in My Tournament tab.  Additionally, if the tournament has limit in the number of participants, you will be able to reserve your spot in the tournament.  Of course, if your plans change and you are not able to attend - please remove yourself from the registration list.  Most tournaments do not require prepayment for the participation - this will allow you greater flexibility.

Types of tournaments.
There are sanctioned and un-sanctioned tournaments.
  • Sanctioned tournaments for kids or for novices are fairly fencer-friendly but will require the following:  full fencing uniform (knickers, plastron, chest protector, jacket, mask, glove, lame for foil and saber) and 2 functional electric weapons, 2 functional body cords, and for foil and saber 2 functional mask cords.  Additionally, fencer must be a competitive USFA member with current membership.
  • Unsanctioned tournaments for kids or for novices are very fencer-friendly.  They are good tournaments to get experience in the tournament format.  Most unsanctioned tournaments are for unrated fencers.  Our Jedi Tournament series is for new, unrated fencers.  Most of the time, non-competitive USFA membership will suffice,  unless stated otherwise in the "More Information" section of the AskFred tournament description.
