Saber is a cutting and thrusting weapon that relies on speed and planning. This is a right of way weapon with the target area from the waist up. Saber, like other fencing weapons, improves mobility, agility, speed and endurance while requiring tactical thinking.
What to expect
After completing your Beginning Fencing class you can pick your weapon.
Choose a class based on the fencers age and skill level. All classes meet 3x a week. The Y14 competitive saber class is filled by the coaches invitation. Older fencers can enter the saber class directly with the coach's permission. Talk to Coach Greg if you have always wanted to be a saberist. If you are serious about making this your competitive sport, weekly lessons are encouraged in addition to your class. Recreational fencers are equally welcome and receive the same great coaching. Fencers are typically able to start competing 6 to 8 months after they begin their saber classes.
Our club $100 annual membership fee and a USA Fencing Membership is required for participation in any of our fencing classes including Open Fencing and private lessons. Uniform rental is available for $35/month. You must be a Nova club member to enroll in the classes.
